What is Interior Design Anyway?
Interior design is the creation of interior environments. Interior environments includes all spaces that are defined by walls, ceilings, and floors such as homes, offices, entertainment facilities, hospitality , etc. It is about the built interior space that support the functions which take place there, the cultures and personalities of people who inhabit them and the aesthetics. The most important role of interior design is to protect and enhance the well being of the people who work, live, and play in built environments. All too often the immediate response of an interior environment is only the aesthetic beauty of the space.
Design is so much more than a just a beautiful space. How does your home function? Is the furniture placed in areas where it best suits your particular needs? Is your home efficient in how the spaces are used? Some homeowners are surprised to learn of new ways to make their home more functional. A more functional home means less stress and frustration.
When you walk in your door do get the feeling of joy when you enter your home?

What is the difference between Design vs. Decorating
It is a common misconception the two are interchangeable, however it is important to understand the difference when seeking assistance.
An Interior Designer (Interior Architect): An Interior designer is someone who holds a 2-4 year degree or more studying the interior environment. The interior designer studies historical architecture, drafting and/or CAD, space planning, textiles, materials and finishes and color to name a few. A designer is educated to understand most interior architectural aspects of a home or building, and complies with general and local building codes. Specialty designers receive additional studies in specific areas such as Kitchen and Bath. A designer is educated and trained to understand the structural components of a space, and provide a functional, healthy, safe and aesthetically pleasing interior environment.
An Interior Decorator: A Decorator is someone who makes selections and applies color and accessories to an interior space. A Decorator is not required to hold a degree or under go any training. Services provided will typically include color, accessories and making furnishing selections.
Keep in mind when hiring a designer or decorator……..
